Rockstar Games has announced that Justice's original score for Grand Theft Auto VI will be released as an album. The Justice GTA VI record, titled Grand Theft Auto VI: Original Score, arrives on December 11 on CD, vinyl and digital, a little over three weeks after the game launches on November 19.

At a glance

  • Album: Grand Theft Auto VI: Original Score
  • Release date: December 11
  • Formats: CD, vinyl and digital
  • Length: 30 tracks, plus several digital bonus tracks
  • Composers: Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay of Justice

What we know

The album includes "Flower In A Hurricane", which features Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and appeared in the game's official launch trailer. It also includes "Pusher", a new single by Justice and fellow French artist Gesaffelstein that was released alongside the announcement.

Press materials describe the music as an "adaptive score", with compositions dynamically tuned to how players move through the game's worlds of Vice City and Leonida. The story follows protagonists Jason and Lucia.

The full tracklist has not been revealed. Fans can hear a preview of select in-game radio stations, which stream singles from the soundtrack, the score and an upcoming album of original tunes made for the game, at rockstargames.com.

The wider rollout

The announcement lands in the run-up to the game's November 19 launch, so the music is being rolled out in stages. Singles come first, then the game, then the full score a few weeks later. Fans who want the physical formats can pre-order the album through the link Rockstar published with the news.

The score is separate from the radio-style material. Rockstar says the radio stations carry singles from the soundtrack, the score and a coming album of original tunes, so there will be more music to follow beyond this release.

Why it matters

A major game launch is now one of the biggest stages for electronic music, and this release puts a French duo at the centre of it. Giving the score its own physical and digital release lets listeners hear it outside the game.
