Adam Beyer Mark Reeve have teamed up again for the four-track Do Our Thing EP, out now on Drumcode. It is the techno pair's third collaboration, and it arrives in the year the label marks its 30th anniversary.

At a glance

  • Release: Do Our Thing EP
  • Label: Drumcode, out now
  • Tracks: Synchronize, Frames, Do Our Thing, Santiago
  • Sound: rolling, percussive dancefloor techno

What we know

Reeve has been on the Drumcode roster since 2012, when he debuted on the label with "Drumatic". He and Beyer first worked together in 2016 on "Nine of You", which has become a regular in Beyer's sets.

They picked the partnership up again earlier this year with "Love Within", described as the unofficial anthem of Drumcode's Mallorca event. This EP followed from another studio session, with the aim of bringing back some old-school energy while keeping the sound current.

The opener, "Synchronize", is built for peak time and carries a guitar riff that grows through its second half. "Frames" is more melodic, with silkier textures over heavier percussion, and suits later hours of a set.

The title track adds a rapped vocal line over sharp drums before a twisting second half. Closer "Santiago" is both soaring and punchy, and clearly made with closing sets in mind.

Reeve says the title sums up the idea: two friends making the music they love. He adds that after all these years, the pair still share the same passion and musical taste.

Why it matters

Beyer has run Drumcode as both artist and label head since the mid-90s, and Reeve has built his catalogue there for more than a decade. A fresh joint EP in the label's anniversary year keeps that long partnership going.
